Identified as one of 36 global biodiversity hotspots the Maputaland-Pondoland-Albany region hosts 190 mammal species, over 650 bird species, 200+ reptile and amphibian species, and 6,000 plant species of which 1,900 are endemic - making it one of the richest regions for plant diversity globally, surpassing even some tropical rainforests.

Aptly named "Place of the Zulu" in honor of the Zulu Kingdom, KwaZulu-Natal is a naturalist's subtropical playground offering 320 days of sunshine each year, a myriad of ecosystems and wildlife all alongside a stunning, warm-water indian ocean coast line.

Experience a 9-day safari, in an intimate group of 8 people, aligned with key timing of seasonal wildlife project activities. Tours are limited and available seasonally to ensure exclusive experiences with healthy respects to natural cycles.

Enjoy interactive discussions with conservation experts, guided field visits to active conservation projects, and walking safaris encountering wildlife in their natural habitat. Day 1-3 : Wildlife in an Urban Metropolis

Stay in Durban's beautiful beachfront town of Ballito. Situated overlooking the Indian Ocean, it's the perfect place to explore coastal forest teaming with vibrant song birds and monkeys. Walking distance from beaches lined by 75° crystal-clear waters, dip your feet in the ocean and soak up South African sun.

Beyond being a tropical destination, Durban is a hub for conservation initiatives. Engage with conservation experts on African Crowned Eagles, join wildlife enthusiasts on night walks to discover nocturnal wonders, and contribute to protecting the city's unique reptile and amphibian populations. Wake up to the melodies of vibrant songbirds and connect with Durban's renowned bird diversity.

In this coastal setting, where metropolis meets nature, your journey transcends the ordinary, blending the excitement of conservation, the warmth of South African hospitality, and the luxury of beachside retreats for an unparalleled adventure.

Day 4-7 : The Untouched Landscapes of Zululand

Embark on an immersive journey into Zululand traveling across rural Kwazulu-Natal. Hear directly from locals what this land, and ALL its inhabitants means to them. Experience the vibrant "hippo night-life" and watch adorned, traditional dancers, blend rhythm with local flair.

Savor an African sunset on a river boat through Eastern Africa's largest estuary, home to Kwazulu-Natal's largest hippo and crocodile populations. Venture further into the UNESCO World Heritage Site of iSimangaliso Nature Reserve on a night game drive, followed by participation in Sea Turtle Conservation through nesting and hatching surveys. Uncover reclusive nocturnal wildlife bush babies, hippos, and genets located right outside our door.

The adventure continues to a full-day game drive in Africa's oldest nature reserve, historically a Zulu king's hunting grounds - its immaculate wilderness at its finest. Days 8-9 : Rhino Conservation in Protected Areas of KwaZulu-Natal

The preservation of the Rhino has needed a drastic effort, and be there first hand to understand and witness the efforts to keeping these majestic mammals in existence.

Our days in Manyoni Nature Reserve unfold with daily expert led game drives. Understand reintroduction initiatives, witness the majesty of lions, the speed of cheetahs—all while staying in world-renowned lodges that blend luxury with the rugged beauty of the landscape.
